florida avenue northwest last night. neighbors say the intersection where the accident happened can be confusing. >> you have three or four different directions of lanes, and i think we may need to look in to it being redesigned or making it easier for drivers to navigate this intersection. >> reporter: no one inside the restaurant was injured. the restaurant was closed. one of the crash victims is fighting for her life right now, and the other pedestrian, a woman, is listed in serious biostable condition. police are on the hunt for a man who sexually assaulted a woman at a fairfax county bus stop. it happened yesterday morning near the intersection of la vista drive and franconia road. our 9 news now kristin fisher has the latest information on the investigation and the community reaction to this

crime crime. >> he is no longer letting his little sister walk alone. >> now we can't trust this place. >> reporter: around 4:30 yesterday morning, a 23-year- old woman was waiting at this fairfax county bus stop when a man grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her. the victim was taken to the hospital with nonlife- threatening injuries now the search is on for the suspect. >> my mom is scared so she can't come here by herself. >> reporter: fairfax county police have been staked at the bus stop throughout the morning and they are stopping drivers and giving them flyers, the flyer that contains a description of the crime, but also a description of the suspect. police say he's a hispanic male between 25 and 35 years old. he has a stocky build and wearing a white t-shirt and tan cargo pants at the time of the attack. >> it is scary because a lot of

displays will go to the fist ten groups that apply. a montgomery county ride on bus is a complete loss following a fire. amateur video caught the flames coming from the vehicle near the intersection of wayne avenue and colesville road in silver spring. investigators say the flames broke out yesterday in the engine of the bus. everyone on board the bus was able to get off safely. the location is near the discovery headquarters where another man is staging an environmental protest. walt rave walked up and down the street with a sign reading "james lee was right." lee is the protester that took three people hostage in silver spring last week at the discovery headquarters. police shot and killed him. rave says he believes that lee snapped when people would not listen to his message. >> he was simply at the end of his rope, and he wanted to make

his point to a world that will not listen. will not listen. and the world should not listen to me. >> it is crazy. >> that's scary. >> they are asking for your attention. >> reporter: rave says that he read lee's manifesto and found much of it to be accurate. the national mall now has free wireless internet. local government and federal partners are making wi-fi available from third to 14th street on the mall. the private company cisco donated the network hardware and level 3 donated the internet services. city officials say the free wi- fi will improve the mall for people visiting the many museums and memorials. well, this she last day if you want to vote early in maryland's upcoming primary. thousands have already caster that ballots. the early voting started on friday. the polls are open until 8:00

he was once listed as the wealthiest man in america and built a broadcasting empire that was the forerunner to fox television. he donated tens of millions of dollars though the university of virginia and the library of congress. he was 95 years old. democrats in richmond say they have reservations about governor mcdonnell's plan to privatize liquor sales. the republican leader wants to sell the state's 332 abc stores then the commonwealth will auction off 1,000 liquor licenses. plans call for the profits to go to highway projects in the old dominion. >> i have always been sort of a -- sort of favoring privatizing wherever it can be done but it has to say money and turn those funds back to the community and i'm not sure i see how they will happen yet but this that is what will happen i think it is a good idea.

on a florida minister to cancel his plans to burn the koran this weekend he says it will amount to a bonn than zoo for al-qaeda and could endanger members of the military. secretary of state hillary clinton has also denounced the koran burning plans of the reverend terry jones of gainesville. jones says besides death threats and pressure to call off the book burning he has also received a lot of encouragement. the state department ordered u.s. embassies around the world to brace for possible anti-american backlash. angry muslims have already taken to the streets. charlie d'agata has more. >> furious muslim protesters in india set fire to an american flag. they chanted down with america in response to the plan to burn the koran. it's a scene this man wants to see repeated across the globe. he is what hard line former leader of a banned islamist

tropical storm hermine is making its way knot ward after a devastating swing through texas. flooding forced more than 100 rescues. the storm produced self tornadoes near dallas that are blamed for the death of two people. at least three people are missing in texas after they were wept in swift waters. flood watches are in affect for parts of arkansas, missouri and kansas. until tonight. >> that's a lot. >> it is. >> more than they expected you look wonderful. what an outfit, jc. >> good to see you. tom sater is here with the forecast. >> you look like autumn. >> thank you. >> you know you have to change that before we fly the kite later on. don't want you to get muddy. looking at beautiful weather we

really are. the only blemish is the winds kicking up over 20 miles an hour. they pick up in the afternoon and will do that again tomorrow. a lot to talk about. not just hermine but the possibility of needed rain. we are looking at extra extreme drought in many locations in our region. it was 75. yesterday we topped out at 96 degrees. dulles tied a record 93. 96 was not the record. that was 100 but at 3:00 p.m., 77 and at 9:00 tonight 75 degrees, code green. air quality is good. look at thou dry the air is. this is relative humidity. at one point yesterday afternoon when the front moved through, humidity at 4:00 p.m. dropped to 12%. that's like having the furnace on in the middle of winter. very dry air. these are wind gusts out of the northwest. the general flow is 10 to 15 miles an hour but they gust 22

miles an hour in leesburg, andrew, frederick and andrews air force base. with the strong wind and low humidity we are under a threat of wildfires. keep that in mind. yesterday we had a red flag warning. that's been allowed to discontinue but looking a drought conditions. this is back in june where a moderate drought area for the metro area was a concern but remember the severe storms we had. it dropped rain. so it improved for the metro areas of washington and baltimore but with the excessive heat and the lack of rainfall, panhandle of west virginia, western maryland through areas of western loudoun county, faulkier county, rappahanock, culpeper, orange, to the south extreme drought. that's bad news. ask any farmer that lives out there. the corn is shot. the next three days no chance of rain but it is refreshing. sunshine 79. we hit 96 yesterday. now the forecast calls for winds to diminish tonight. that's good news but 40sin the

suburbs. 57 overnight. tomorrow another delightful day. winds most and that means more of the same. hermine moved from the texas area with the flooding in to the missouri valley. we will watch this because our best chance of rain is on sunday. the best chance of timing is overnight saturday in to sunday maybe get it out of here before kickoff at fedex field. good news there. we will watch this as it makes its way here. until then, here's the seven- day forecast. i like it. nothing says autumn like football and frost advisories. the frost advisory may have to wait another week or two but the terps have an open atlantic game at their home. that's on saturday. looks good there. and of course cowboys are in town. hopefully the rainfall will get out of the area just in time for kickoff. all right. it is that time again. who needs a pet at home? we have kitty here. hi, susan. susan flierman is with us. tell us who you have with us today.
